Day 180 - Back to work, originally uploaded by clarity25.

This morning I had to get up out of bed and bear the pain. I already took off Monday due to Sunday's accident, but I can't afford to miss another day of work.

I stumbed out of bed, popped 3 more Motrion and limped around my bedroom this morning pulling together an outfit to wear for the office.

My foot wouldn't fit into a pair of sneakers with my brace on, or my Doc Martins, or naturally my high heels.. but I managed to squeeze my foot into a pair of loose fitting dress shoes. I can't go into work barefoot. It's still extremely painful when I walk, but I have to grit my teeth and cope. My foot is still swollen and throbbing. I attached the brace as tightly as I could for the support.

I have too much to do at work. I don't want to lose my job.

I'll get through this injury just like everything else.

“If you can go through life without experiencing pain you probably haven't been born yet.”
-Neil Simon

Besides this is small stuff, I'm lucky that I've gone this far without having to have any surgery or broken bones. I was only admitted into a hospital once at age 4 to have my tonsils removed. I don't even have any scars.

and People have accidents every day. So I have nothing to complain about.

Random Question: What is the worst injury you've had?

I was a rather long limbed child and so was very very clumsy. I've broken most of my fingers, some of them more than once, my foot, arm, toe, I think I broke my nose when I was small, I've had concussion and the year before last I fractured my kneecap when a horse I was riding smacked it into a concrete fencepost. Now that hurt but the worst, by far the worst thing ever was the full lenth, top of thigh to ankle leg cast that I had to wear for weeks. My god that was uncomfortable, you couldn't even sit down properly or use the loo normally because when you sat down your leg jutted out at 90 degrees. Horrendous. Best of luck with the ankle, I hope it feels better soon and the pain dies down. I don't know any way of speeding it up other than keep it elevated and get lots of rest so your body has energy to heal. Love Vicola

During my senior year in college I was hit by a car during a snowstorm and tore all the ligaments in my knee. I had to have surgery and spent the whole spring with a brace from my hip to my ankle and on crutches. It sucked. And today I still have problems with that knee.
Good luck with your ankle...I think ice and elevation are your best bets for a speedy recovery.

How about one of Eric's sneakers combined with yours for the other foot? I hate the idea of you wearing those shoes with a sprained ankle.

My worst injury? I cut the tip of the forefinger on my left hand off using a paper cutter (I was banned from using one ever again). I wrenched my knee falling down the stairs at work when I lived in SF. I cracked my head open when I was 3 years old running down the driveway and falling into the hose holder doohickey. I broke my baby toe running through the house and kicking a frozen chicken my mother had sitting on the floor in front of the heat register. And lastly, I had a herniated disk in my neck which required a cervical diskectomy and fusion. That was the worst pain in my life and lasted for over two months.

I've broken a lot of bones in my body but I think the worst injury was pulling my back out. For some reason that was more troublesome than any broken bone...

Be well Clarity

I've been lucky with just silly injuries; sprained ankle (6 times on THE SAME ONE!), deep cuts on my right knee and my left forefinger and the worst was when I had a car accident...the whiplash was terrible!
My boyfriend had a terrible injury a few years ago. He plays baseball and as he was standing at homebase, a guy slid and somehow managed to knock his knee OUT from the top and bottom...he was in surgery for over 4/5 hours, had pins and a metal plate put in and he was in a cast and crutches for over 4 months...
Just try to keep your ankle elevated as much as possible, pop painkillers together with anti-imflammotaries (try Ibrufen) and ice the area.
Feel better soon dear.

I've already shared my injuries...but just wanted to say that the brace plus the shoe make the shoe look like some fancy high heel.

Please wear running shoes to work and if you have to just wear the heels at work.
Your boss should be pretty understanding about a sprained ankle, wearing heels your just going to hurt it more!

I got drunk at a Track party..I threw heavy things, I didn't run...but I ended up in Stanford Med for shattering 3 vertebrates, hairline fracturing 6 others and a concussion.

Apparently I fell off the deck sometime after the party had started winding down...no one saw, and only the kid brother of the house we were partying at heard, me as I fell the 50 feet to the well manicured hillside the house was built into.

I'm in some medical books out in California, for falling so far, sustaining so much damage and walking out a week later, with only a brace and no nerve damage...I didn't win any money at the casinos for 2 years...used up all of my luck I guess.
