Day 113 - Riding on a cable car, originally uploaded by clarity25.

met my friend, Mary Anne from Oakland at Union Square this afternoon. She had never experienced San Francisco and she wanted to ride a cable car.

Here's some tips for anyone that plans on riding a cable car in San Francisco.

DON'T GO ON THE WEEKEND.

The crowd at Union Square goes on for eternity and you can expect a one hour wait. Go during a weekday in the early morning or evening when all the tourists are gone.

Take the California Street Cable Car instead of the Powell/Mason line

If you go on the weekend, expect to fight for outside seating. Everyone wants to hang on the rails or stand in the back of the cable car to see the breathtaking view as you climb up the hills. EVERYONE. Only 2 people can stand in the back.

Some of the cable car attendants are not very nice or patient. You do something silly and they'll kick you right off. really! They don't care that you paid $5 for that one way ticket... So watch out.

We took the cable car to Ghiradelli Square and wandered along the waterside.

Then I walked up Hyde Street back to our Apartment and drove to Berkley for a Sketch Group meeting with a group of Bay Area Artists.

It was nice to meet some other artists in the area and make some new friends.

I also didn't realize how close Berkley was to San Francisco. It's only a 17 minute drive over the Bay Bridge.
