I painted this in oil for my college senior thesis.

It's a portrait of a woman that is now in her 60's. It's the most defining moment of her life. She was pregnant in the south as a teenager. Her boyfriend left her just before the birth of her child. This was the moment when she was holding her newborn child waddled up in a blanket and sitting on the edge of her bed. Alone. Her life was ahead of her and she was a little afraid of the unknown. She was determined to overcome the odds and make it. Just her and her child.

Now her son is a police officer and she lives alone in a beautiful little house with a garden. It was a struggle but she made it and she found happiness. Although it's not the best artwork I've ever done...It was a break-through painting for me and defined my artwork style afterwards.

And Yes, I am in the shot. Look closer..

I'm holding it.
